MCS certification
Why MCS certification is non-negotiable.
MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) is the UK quality standard for renewable heating installers. Only an MCS-certified business can apply for the BUS grant on your behalf — so if you want the £7,500, this is the only credential that counts.
We verify every installer against the live MCS register. Certifications get pulled occasionally — we re-check daily.
7-point installer checklist
- They hold current MCS certification (we cross-check the public register)
- They run a room-by-room heat loss survey — not just a quick estimate
- They quote a clear COP / SCOP figure and explain what it means for your house
- They tell you specifically which radiators need upgrading (if any) and why
- They handle the BUS grant application paperwork on your behalf
- They provide written warranties — typically 5–7 years on the unit and 2 years on workmanship
- They reference comparable jobs they have completed nearby (with permission to contact)

Installers — frequently asked
How does heatpumpsaver.co.uk choose which installers to show me?
We query the public MCS register for installers covering your postcode area, then rank them by proximity and current certification status. We do not accept payment to rank installers higher than competitors. Installers can pay to be a "featured" listing, but featured listings are clearly labelled and never replace the proximity-based core results.
What if I do not get three installers in my area?
In rural or remote postcodes we sometimes return fewer than three. Rather than pad the list with installers from far away, we show what we have and explain that the next-nearest installer is more than 30 miles distant — which usually means higher travel costs in the quote.
Will the installer cold-call me?
Only if you click "Request a quote" on their profile. Even then, you can specify email-only contact. We do not pass your details to installers without your explicit consent — your postcode is used for the search but only your name and contact preference are passed when you make a request.
Check eligibility before contacting installers.
Save everyone time — confirm your BUS eligibility first, then approach installers from a position of knowing you qualify.
